Faculty of Law

The Faculty of Law was established in 2009-2010 according to the Ministerial order 15268, on 10/09/2009 and according to the decision of the Council of Ministers (2452) on 25/8/2009.

And by one department is the department of Law and then opened the department of International Relations in accordance with Ministerial Order (10433/4) on 29/5/2014


Law Department

The Department of Law depends on the common annual system in the Iraqi universities in general, and in the Kurdistan Region in particular, where previously the student must pass four years and currently is five years successfully to obtain a bachelor's degree in law.

The Faculty of Law decided to follow the example of the Department of Law at the Faculty of Law and Politics / Salahuddin University in terms of the type of courses and the number of units, Where it found a successful model to represent the annual system of the jurisdiction of the law in Iraqi universities and now the decisions and characterization of the Ministry of Higher Education in the region and therefore adopted a five-year system.

Definition of Law Department

The advanced university education has become the greatest concern and the noble goal and the strategic choice for governments and contemporary societies that seek to achieve high standing among nations and people. In all countries of the world, the construction of societies and their development from universities and colleges begins as the cornerstone of the lofty construction aspired to by loving peoples for freedom and peace.

The importance of the law and the study of law are important in that it is necessary for the society, which in turn is essential to human life and sustainability, and that wherever the society exists, whatever its appearance is, the law will exist, because the society, the organizing body composed of individuals, in which the system appears to be a pillar, and it will not exist unless it exists

If the law is necessary for the establishment of society, it is necessary for its development and progress, and progress can be achieved only by the rules of law, which draw a plan by which the society is committed and committed to respect and sacrifice for it to realize its purpose. Then the law is the result of social life and the society accompanies its creation and keeps it in its development and progress from splitting, it protects it from chaos, and leads it in the track of progress.

The great importance of the young generation in terms of being the section concerned with the constructive work dedicated to reaching a society governed by rules and regulations that preserve the social order and serve as a way of public service and a tool for realizing human values ​​and a means of achieving social justice. The basis for each social change, this means that the contribution of the law student in the development of his country can be done through a law profession

Objectives of the college and description of the graduate

A - Objectives of the College:

The College has set its objectives within an ambitious plan as follows:

The College aims to provide a distinguished law education among their counterparts, up to the international standard, based on the best and most modern educational and pedagogical foundations through the expansion of the use of theoretical and practical methods of scientific rehabilitation in teaching students and teaching the ancient law sciences And to provide them with knowledge and sound law thinking, in order to enhance the various teaching, judicial and administrative competencies.


Spreading law knowledge and enriching the jurisprudential movement and upgrading the faculty members through the dissemination of research and law literature and expressing legal opinions through comment on the provisions of the courts and law legislation, and propose appropriate solutions to legal issues raised.

Holding various seminars for the university's employees and the various section of the society aimed at developing their legal awareness of the laws and legislations in force for higher education, and educating them in law terms within the college plan to maintain the link with society.


Establishing legal relations with various law administrative and judicial bodies through scientific seminars, to contribute to the development of the law reality in line with the achievements of the region in this context.

In the field of community service, the College responds to all that is required of it by contributing to the presentation of law lectures and participation in seminars and making suggestions to the parties that request them in different areas of law based on a request from the relevant authorities.

Communicate with other colleges in Iraqi, Arab and foreign universities through contributing to scientific conferences, transferring the experiences of others, analyzing them and benefiting from them in curriculum development and preparation of graduates.

B - Characterization of the graduate


The study of law is clearly attractive to anyone who thinks of a job in this law profession

However, it is important for students to realize that there is a whole range of jobs outside the practice of law profession, and it is achieved with the availability of important descriptions characterized by the graduate of law and the most important is the ability to:


1 - Pleading before the courts, and eloquence of his argument in defense of the right, with the basic tools, linguistic and scientific that were acquired in the years of study, the profession of the basic lawyer, in addition to the management of other functions that characterize the work of the courts such as judiciary or judicial investigation

2. Work in the governmental and local legal affairs units, where there is almost no ministry or department or any government or private sector not managed by a person specialized in law.

3- The ability to analyze, infer and illustrate complex ideas. These skills are required in diverse and wide areas, including trade, industry, social and political services and the media as well as embassies, consulates and all foreign services, where the legal disciplines are preferred.

4 - Completion of postgraduate studies in the field of specialization, because of the extensive scientific materials provided by the faculty to continue his/her scientific career, and then him/her empowered to practice teaching in universities, human rights institutes and military and security colleges.
